Map #5


There are five parts to include on Map #5:

Part #1: Mark the location where the Republican Army of the North crossed the Sabine River to begin the fight for Mexican Independence and:

  • where the Republican Army captured Goliad
  • the location of the Battle of Medina
  • Galveston Island (and summarize in one sentence why it was so valuable for the rebels to control)
  • Point Bolivar

 

Part #2: Shade the areas representing the following empresario settlement sites:

  • Austin (1821 and 1827)
  • Austin and Williams (1831)
  • DeWitt
  • De Zavala
  • De Leon
  • Burnet
  • Woodbury
  • Cameron (1827 and 1828)

 

Part #3: Using a different color or marking system, show the location that will become Coahuila y Tejas. 

 

Part #4: On the back of your map, answer the question: Could the empresario settlements have happened if the fight for Mexican Independence had not happened? Why or why not? Answer should be at least one short paragraph.

Part #5: On the back of your map, answer the question: Which empresario’s settlement was most successful, and why? Answer should be at least one short paragraph.
